Simple modem-based solution that monitors a UK phone line
and notifies you automatically when a call arrives on that line.
- Requires a compatible modem connected to a physical COM port on
your computer running Windows. We recommend a PACE 56voice external modem.
These cost around £25.
- Requires a line splitter. This is a small inexpensive plastic
item available from any telephone shop. You plug it directly into your
telephone wall socket. It has two sockets on the back. One you plug in your
current phone connection (to your handset / answering machine). The other you
plug in your LineWatcher modem.
- When incoming call is detected, a small audit file is written
to a Windows directory of your choice. This captures information about the call
- date/time and the number of the person who called you. Example audit file
here.
- Windows program is then called automatically to notify you of
the call e.g. send you an email or text message.
- Completely transparent. Does not interrupt the call in any way.
The call still gets through e.g. to a person answering the call or to your
answering machine.
- Works even if the call is not answered e.g. the caller hangs up
before the call is answered.
- Automatic installation procedure with simple configuration
file. See our User Guide.
- Cost £300 per line monitored.
- Further options available if you wish. LineWatcher can easily
be extended to cater for your special requirements.
